What’s it all about?

Reviews are an essential part of the arts world. Everyone who puts on a show wants reviewers to come along and there are plenty of opportunities to get free tickets to shows in exchange for a review. You probably won’t get paid for writing them but it’s worth it to get to see shows for free.

What will we cover?

We will start with what a review is and why we need them before working through what you need to cover in a review.

You might be thinking “Who’s gonna read it?” or “What if you hate the show you’re reviewing?” We will have the answers to these questions and many more. We can get you started and even tell you the best times of the year to put your hand up!

Who will be teaching?

cropped3Liza Dezfouli is a freelance journalist in the arts and has been reviewing live performance for the last seven years. She reviews theatre, dance, comedy, circus, film, music performances, CDs and a few other things that defy description. She writes for Beat magazine, and for the arts websites Arts Hub and Australian Stage Online. Basically she can’t get enough of live performance, especially theatre. Reviewing allows her to see almost as many shows as she can fit in her life. She also writes plays herself, and can occasionally be seen performing stand-up comedy.
