What’s in Your Shampoo?

What’s it all about?

We’re all told to lather, rinse, and repeat every day for soft, shiny hair. But what happens when your hair doesn’t look quite like the hair in the shampoo ad? Do you have frizzy, broken, or dry hair? Instead of reaching for the shampoo bottle again, put it down – for good. We’re going to deconstruct hair care and use the items you have in your kitchen cabinet to give you healthy, strong tresses – no extensions or Photoshop required.

What will we cover?

We’ll take a look at what exactly is in the hair care products we’re told to use (hint: it’s a lot of stuff that isn’t actually good for your hair!) and look at why, and how, hair care is advertised to us. Then we’ll talk about what exactly your hair needs and how you can create your own hair masks using ingredients that you already have at home.

By the end of the class you’ll be equipped with enough knowledge to decode the ingredients list on the back of your shampoo, and enough savvy to laugh at the next hair care commercial that comes your way. Plus you’ll even get to try your hand at making your own hair mask, which will be yours to take home at the end of the class!

Who will be teaching?

Kate Iselin is a writer, clothing designer, and editor who has taught classes with Laneway Learning on everything from feminism to improv comedy – but most importantly, she has excellent hair. Kate has bleached, dyed, cut, and extended her hair for over a decade and maintains that it’s her dedication to using all-natural products, rather than salon-grade chemicals, that has let her keep her hair looking My Little Pony-vibrant.
