What’s it all about?

Men’s shirts are a fantastic source of fabric and inspiration for creating skirts, dresses and tops. In this workshop we will show you no-sew wrapping techniques and simple sewing hacks to create stylish, zero-waste fashion from the vast quantities of second hand men’s shirts that can be found in your local op shop!

What will we cover?

In this class we will:

  • Inspire you with some fabulous examples of both high-end and easy-to-make women’s clothing created from upcycled men’s shirts.
  • Have a go at some fun wrapping techniques to make no-sew garments on the spot!
  • Demonstrate a few simple cutting and sewing tricks to transform shirts into new clothes.

Who will be teaching?

Gaye Naismith runs The Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling in Melbourne’s Inner West, teaching sustainable sewing skills to young and old.

She subscribes to Vivienne Westwood’s mantra on sustainable dressing “buy less, choose well, make it last”.
