Travel through the ages and watch manicuring advance from sheets of metal and henna paste to high-tech polymers and resins. Find out what those white spots on your nails really mean, what to look for in a hygienic nail salon, and how to accomplish the perfect DIY manicure.
If you’ve ever wondered why your nails won’t grow long and strong, what’s the difference between acrylic and gel, and what the heck IS Shellac, anyway?!), and why we love nail art in a depressed economy, this fun, informative class is for you.
What will we cover?
This class will take you through the fascinating history of manicuring, from the ancient Egyptians to the nail salons of today, paying close attention to the cultures that specific nail trends flourished in.
You’ll learn about general nail health, nail myths, and see behind the curtain of your average nail salon (you may be horrified). We’ll cover products (is a $30 nail polish really better than a $5 one?), tools, tips, and tricks.
Finally, you’ll learn how to give yourself a basic DIY manicure that will rival most nail salons. Personal manicure kits will be provided to use and keep. Leave the class with fabulous nails and a head of knowledge!
Who will be teaching?
Erin Margrethe is the American manicurist behind Blonde Tiger in Melbourne’s CBD. She’s been doing nails for so long, she still has the practice nail art she did in beauty school in 1993. Erin has done nails everywhere from high-end day spas to country-town beauty parlours to cruise ships on the high seas. She’s been doing nails in Melbourne for 5 years and is embarrassingly passionate about educating people on nail health and safety, as well as all the fun stuff.
