What’s it all about?

The Japanese art of flower arranging, also known as Ikebana, plays an important part in the Japanese culture. It is an art form that embeds a unique sets of aesthetics, which requires the composer and viewers to study, appreciate, and celebrate a variety of seasonal floral materials. The flowers are chosen and placed with gracefulness, liveliness, and an element of surprise.

What will we cover?

We will cover a brief history of Ikebana, the main principles for the composition, and a hands-on Ikebana experience. You will be provided with a suiban, a kenzan, and plant materials to create an iconic Ikebana arrangement. Participants will take home all materials and a complete arrangement.

Who will be teaching?

Shokai is a qualified Ikebana instructor. She started Ikebana as a hobby, and her passion grew stronger as her practice became more serious. For Shokai, Ikebana is a form of daily practice, self-discipline, and a way to cultivate creativity. Through Ikebana, she has found a way to capture moods, express themes, and own her stories.
