What will we cover?

In this class we will cover:

  • The documented ways indoor plants benefit our lives and improve our wellbeing.
  • How to keep plants happy indoors, including watering, light and fertilising.
  • How to grow in pots; the basics of growing media (potting mix), different kinds of pots and their advantages & disadvantages.
  • Short and long term maintenance for indoor plants.
  • Common problems when growing indoor plants.
  • Identifying and treating pests and diseases
  • Propagating indoor plants.
  • Recommendations on ‘bullet proof’ indoor plants that are nearly impossible to kill, and cheap to buy or propagate.

Who will be teaching?

patrick honanPatrick Honan is a qualified horticulturalist. Graduating from Urban Horticulture at Melbourne University, Burnley, he now works for St Kilda Indigenous Nursery Co-op. As a maintenance gardener, he is solely responsible for keeping the indoor plant landscape at Hortus greenhouse cafe in Melbourne’s Docklands happy and healthy. He has studied journalism, and has working experience with communication. Patrick is interested in sustainability, conservation and the environment and how to get people to adapt those ideas to the urban context through effective communication.
