What’s it all about?

It’s close to midnight and something evil’s lurking in the dark… But you are not in a thriller: you are in a concert hall! Witches, zombies, monsters, ghosts and trolls, they all inspired classical composers for works that will give you goosebumps…

Lets take a spooky musical journey to celebrate Halloween.

What will we cover?

We will explore a repertoire of classical music and see how composers who were inspired by scary stories or characters express this musically and delve into some sounds or melodies that in themselves inspire terror.

Be afraid… Be very afraid!

What will you need?

  • Ears and nerves.

Who will be teaching it?

Mathilde experienced fear and music together when she gave her first concerts at her music school in Roanne (France), as a kid. She became an orchestra librarian in 2009, working for orchestras in Lyon then Paris, and luckily never met any library ghost during her activity. However, she found scary props during a week of librarianship at the Helsinki Opera. Spiders scare her, but not enough to refuse to move to Australia to join the team of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2018.
