What’s it all about?

The Charleston is a dance named for the harbor city of Charleston, South Carolina. The peak year for the Charleston  was mid-1926 to 1927, the “Roaring ’20s”.

Today Charleston is an important dance in Lindy Hop dance culture, danced in many permutations: alone (solo), with a partner, or in groups of couples or solo dancers.

In this class you will learn some solo Charleston basic steps and some tricks to look like a real flapper in your next Great Gatsby party.

What will we cover?

In this class you will:

  • Hear about the history of the Charleston
  • Learn some basic solo Charleston steps
  • Pick up some tricks to impress at your next 1920’s party

Who will be teaching?

Freddy teaches regularly for Swing Patrol Northcote and is an active member of the Melbourne Lindy Hop community. She is part of Hot Jam dance troupe and  always keen to share her passion for this dance.
