What’s it all about?

Make yourselves a nice cup of coffee and learn how to create beautiful illustrations with it!  We love our cafe culture in Melbourne and we all miss it a lot these days.  Why not take a new approach and use your coffee for painting a favourite Melbourne landmark or an iconic feature or creature such as the fairy penguins of St Kilda?

In this class, Emilie will teach you how to use coffee to replace ink and create fun and creative paintings. Through a series of engaging exercises, you will learn how to make your coffee ink and get started with doodling, lettering and letting your imaginations run free.

All you need is paper, brushes, a spoon and some strong coffee – instant coffee works best!  Emilie will cover the material part at the beginning of the class.

What will we cover?

We will explore the creative potential of stains, drops and drips, learn to paint with a spoon and finally work on your final composition, using layering and different tones of coffee.

In this class we will play with our coffee in a whole new way and learn about;

  • Making ink with coffee
  • Doodling and lettering with coffee
  • Working with stains and drips
  • Painting with a spoon
  • Layering, tones and shades to create delightful artworks

What will you need?

  • Notebook or just paper if you prefer (ideally heavy paper eg. watercolour paper)
  • Brushes
  • Spoon
  • Coffee (instant coffee actually works best)
  • Pens or pencils
