What’s it all about?

Once COVID19 restrictions are relaxed, many of us will be wildly keen to immerse ourselves in natural environments outside Melbourne. Perhaps you have enjoyed day bushwalks in the past but would like to try overnight or multi-day bushwalks? If you have been unsure where to start and how to prepare for these walks, this class is for you!

Bushwalks of two days or more duration have several benefits over day walks. These enable you to experience sights and habitats that are outside the reach of day walkers. Sleeping and eating under the stars away from cars and other signs of civilization is a liberating experience!

What will we cover?

  • How to identify suitable walks to start and expand your walks repertoire
  • What equipment you need to purchase or borrow to have a safe and enjoyable walk
  • Tips for taking tasty meals and treats
  • Preparing for your walk

Some examples of overnight or multi-day walks include:
Refuge Cove in Wilson’s Promontory National Park, Major Mitchell Plateau in the Grampians Gariwerd National Park and remote parts of the Alpine National Park, just to name a few. Then there’s the famous and wonderful Overland Track in Tasmania.

What will you need?

  • Paper, pen, pencil or your note taking device

Who will be teaching?

Darren McClelland is an experienced walks leader with the Essendon Bushwalking Club and Victorian National Parks Association.

For many years Darren has led overnight and multi-day walks on the Overland Track, Fraser Island, Great Ocean Walk, Grampians Gariwerd National Park, Beeripmo Track and Wilson’s Promontory National Park.

A passionate environmentalist, Darren looks forward to sharing the joys of remote walking with Laneway Learners!
