What’s it all about?

Everybody loves bicycles, don’t they?! Cycling is often the fastest and most efficient way to travel in urban areas. It’s fun. It’s free. It’s a great way to stay fit. And it’s not going to send the environment to hell in a car boot! What’s not to like? Okay,… so what about when you get a flat tire?! Well, really, it’s no big deal!

Come along to this workshop to learn basic bike repairs and maintenance skills that will keep your wheels rolling. And you’ll save money, too! There’s no need to pay a bike shop big dollars to fix a puncture when you can do it yourself for pennies.

A little knowledge is a powerful thing. This workshop will give you independence and peace of mind when you are out and about on your bike.

What will we cover?

The session will cover the basics of bike repair and maintenance. We start by fixing a puncture and then move on to brake and gear adjustments. As time permits we will also learn to identify the main components of different systems such as the drive train, and to recognise signs of wear and identify when something can be fixed or if it needs replacing.

There will be general workshop tips and time for Q&A!

Anna KortschakWho will be teaching?

Anna spent over five years travelling solo by bicycle in the Americas, Europe and parts of Asia. She travelled and camped in remote areas on the margins of the road system and sometimes completely beyond it. She wrote the Mexico and Central American section of the Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook and many of her adventures are described on her blog A Thousand Turns.
