What’s it all about?

Do you feel like the more you read or hear about carbon emissions in the news, the less you understand about them? If you want to make sense of what politicians and businesses are saying about carbon, then this class is for you! Come learn the facts on Australia’s emissions and on what can be done to reduce them.

What will we cover?

In this class, we will explore:

  • What are the sources of carbon emissions in Australia,
  • How emissions have changed in the past, and how they are expected to change in the future,
  • What opportunities exist to reduce emissions further,
  • What barriers are currently standing in the way of further reductions,
  • How different types of policies impact emissions reduction activity.

Who will be teaching?

Eli is a Project Manager at ClimateWorks Australia, an independent, research-based, non-profit organisation committed to catalysing reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in Australia. He has co-authored several major reports for ClimateWorks, including analysis of the opportunity for emissions reductions, and is working with businesses and government to make sure these opportunities are actually implemented.

Eli is passionate about working with people and making the research and evidence about how to cost-effectively reduce emissions accessible, exciting and practical to enable the people who make policy, business and investment decisions to deliver real initiatives. Prior to joining ClimateWorks, Eli had extensive experience in developing public policy and working with government, having worked as a lawyer for the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office and Legal Policy Officer for the Victorian Department of Justice. He also has broad knowledge of energy-related industries and energy policy in Australia and internationally through his role as Energy Policy Advocate at the Moreland Energy Foundation.
