What’s it all about?

You would have seen taxidermy animals at museums, and maybe even at a friend’s house. The techniques involved, from skinning to stuffing to mounting, takes years of practice to perfect; capturing the fearsome roar of a tiger or the graceful flight of an eagle. If you want to see how it’s done, then this is the class for you.

What will we cover?

  • What is taxidermy?
  • The history and evolution of taxidermy (tanning, preservation and the mounting)
  • What is inside taxidermy?
  • What is the process?

Then there will be a live skinning demonstration!

Who will be teaching?

natdelaneyjohnNatalie Delaney-John is an established taxidermist apprenticed to the director of South Pacific Taxidermy, Gary Pegg. In 2013 she helped build a taxidermy museum in Spain, Museo de la Caza, and in May 2014 she started running her introductory taxidermy workshop, Rest In Pieces, in Melbourne. They are the only taxidermy courses being run in Australia, and have resulted in Natalie being featured in The Age, ABC and RRR Radio, Time Out and The New York Times. 2015 will see her adding an intermediate class to her repertoire, as well as the launch of her first major exhibitions.
