What’s it all about?

Singing in front of other people can be empowering, joyful and fun. It can also be freakin’ scary. Maybe you’re Pavarotti in the shower, but the idea of singing in public turns you into a quivering mess. Maybe you used to sing in school and are now a bit rusty. Or maybe you are, actually, Pavarotti. Welcome back sir – we missed you.

No matter who you are, a choir is the perfect way to get your vocal chords vibrating in all the right ways; supported by your fellow singers the scariness is greatly diminished. A Pop-Up Choir will show you that even in a short space of time, you can access the confidence to sing in front of others.

What will we cover?

This class will go over basic breathing exercises and vocal warm ups that you can practice at home to improve your confidence and skill as a singer. Then we’ll jump right into learning songs as a choir. We’ll sing together in 2 or 3 part harmony and lift the roof off the Little Mule with our glorious* tones!

*you do not need to be a ‘good’ singer to be glorious!

Who will be teaching?

Anna SmyrkAnna Smyrk is a local musician and music teacher.

With her band Anna Smyrk and the Appetites she has performed at venues and festivals around the country. She spent 2011 coaxing activists into singing protest songs in 3 part harmony as the conductor of the Radical Choir. She enjoys tea, op shops and swimming in large bodies of water.
