What’s it all about?

Learn how to engrave a milk carton and make a series of print from it!

An easy, accessible technique of printmaking that doesn’t require a press or expensive copper or zinc plates! In this workshop you will learn how to design an image for printmaking, engrave your milk box plate, ink it, and then make your own limited edition of prints

What will we cover?

In this online class we will cover the basic of etching printmaking technique using a milk or juice box. Emilie will demonstrate a couple of engraving technique and how to design and compose your image. You’ll learn how to ink and print with very easily accessible materials.

What will you need?

  • Paper – Any thick paper will do.
  • Pencil
  • Compass or needle to engrave your milk box
  • Box-cutter, blade, or scissors
  • sponges
  • Water based paint, ideally gouache
  • Flour (to mix with the paint during the class)
  • A milk or juice box
  • Old plastic cards such as miki, bank card, etc
  • Rolling pin

Who will be teaching?

Emilie is a Melbourne based artist and maker, currently finishing her PhD at the Victorian College of the Arts. She moved from France in 2014 and has been developing her art practice since, working with a range of media, from video to printmaking, 3D printing and a variety of paint mediums. Emilie is also a comic book artists. Her illustration has been published by the Lifted Brow, and she self-published her first graphic novel in 2018 with Tree Paper Comics in Melbourne.
