What’s it all about?

Worshipped across the wizarding world, the fictional sport in the Harry Potter series has a very real-world counterpart. The sport was adapted for non-magical folk in 2005 in the USA and has since spread like wildfire, boasting over 300 teams from all over the world. It’s a real sport, with a real following, including ranked matches, national and international tournaments, all falling under the watchful eye of the International Quidditch Association.

Neither a love of Harry Potter nor athletic ability is necessary to play quidditch.

What will we cover?

This class will cover the basic positions, balls, and a general overview of gameplay, as well as touching on the history of the sport – both real and fictional. We’ll teach you how to understand the game and what part of the ground to be watching at which moment. There’ll also be an overview of the quidditch league in Victoria, as well as the different teams around Australia, and we’ll even touch on upcoming international tournaments such as the Global Games and the recently completed World Cup VII.

Who will be teaching?

alliparkerAlli Parker is the President of the Victorian Quidditch Association and currently plays as a Beater for the Blackburn Basilisks. She’s also one of 21 players who have been selected to play for Team Australia in the second international Global Games tournament, to be held in Vancouver in July 2014.
