What’s it all about?

You may never be Obama, but could you give a great speech at a wedding?

We all know speaking in public can be terrifying, but this fun, informal class will help you enjoy it more. And enjoying it more is the best way to do it better.

Whether you make speeches regularly or not, come down to the Little Mule to chat, share stories and to pick up tips from some of history’s greatest speakers.

What will we cover?

We’ll look at examples of great public speaking from ancient history, comedy, theatre, The West Wing, and anything in between. A few basic kinds of public speaking and rhetorical techniques will be covered and related to our experiences.

Most of us have been lucky enough to be present at a great presentation. We’ll share these experiences and look at how they have affected us. We’ll also look at not-so-great examples, and how to avoid these. Each participant will then choose a kind of public declaration they would like to make and build up from there. We’ll get practical with opportunities for role play, we will discuss and improve any public speech impediments, learn a few new tricks and reflect on the role of public speaking in daily life. We will also give each other some supportive feedback on areas to continue to work on before that next big event.

Guaranteed no Power Point. Just the skills to leave with a better understanding of their own speaking and more confidence to take on public leadership roles.
