What’s it all about?

Ever wondered what’s beyond the shores of your favourite Kuta beach? Or whether Bali really is different to the rest of Indonesia?

We’re going to learn a bit about one of Australia’s closest neighbours. Whether it is the geography of the country, the myriad cultures and religions, the tastiest food to try, the most useful phrases to learn, or some key moments in history, you’ll be pointed in the right direction for an adventure beyond the known.

What will we cover?

This class will provide an overview of Indonesia, including:

  • geography
  • history
  • culture
  • food
  • languages

You’ll learn some Indonesian phrases and get to test your knowledge of the country. Plus, if you’re planning a trip there, you can ask questions about specific sights and locations.

Who will be teaching?

Simone Alesich lived in Indonesia for a year in 2004, where she conducted fieldwork research in Sulawesi. She has visited many different parts of Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua. She is a fluent Indonesian language speaker, and loves Indonesian culture, jokes, art and food.
