What’s it all about?

In 2017 the world’s population surpassed 7.5 billion people, and the question was once again raised; how many people is too many? Whether your concern is environmental sustainability, financial security, immigration or simple quality of life, there is no denying that the more people we have, the more pressure is placed on all of these issues. So how many people is too many? And what are our options to control the issue?

What will we cover?

The concept of population control is an old one, but only growing in significance as time goes on. But it is also notoriously complicated, begging the question of who will be included, under what circumstances, what consequences there might be for disobedience, and all of the many unforeseen consequences that might eventuate from any of these approaches. In this class we will look at previous attempts at population control, proposed options, the consequences of both, and a discussion about what you can do to ensure that whichever option is chosen (if any) is the right one.
