What’s it all about?

Before the Tim Tam became synonymous with Australians, the ANZAC biscuit was our signature biscuit around the world. In preparation for ANZAC Day, join us for a cuppa and as we cover ingredients, recipe and method for a ‘traditional’ biscuit, mix in a sprinkle of history as well as bake a tray or two in search for right texture.

What will we cover?

The class will be a cook along to bake your own biscuits. While the biscuits bake how about a quick game of two-up? As we can’t share the cookies together, you’ll get to take-away a mix of traditional and non-traditional recipes as well as links to articles for further reading.

What will you need?

Ingredients needed for a traditional style ANZAC biscuit:

  • Rolled oats (not instant oats)
  • Sugar (regular, caster, raw or brown)
  • Golden syrup (can substitute honey or treacle too)
  • Bicarbonate soda (baking soda)
  • Flour – wheat based (plain, all purpose)
  • Butter
  • Optional coconut (shredded, desiccated or chips/flakes)

Equipment:

  • Small pot or saucepan (high sides)
  • Mixing bowl and mixing spoon/spatula
  • Measuring cups, spoons, etc
  • Baking paper and baking sheet (cookie sheet or rimmed baking sheet)
  • Oven
  • Cooling rack

Who will be teaching?
