What’s it all about?

Ever dreamed about writing a song but not sure where to start? Song ideas are all around us!

Learn how to capture those gems and go home humming with the tools and confidence to write the lyrics to your first song.

What will we cover?

In this fun, hands-on introduction to writing song lyrics, we’ll explore:

  • Getting song ideas
  • Song structure: What’s a verse? What’s a chorus?
  • What makes lyrics powerful and memorable?
  • Bringing your lyrics to life through rhyme, repetition, metaphor and a killer hook.

Along the way, we’ll have lots of fun trying out practical techniques to tap into your inner lyricist.

While the focus is on writing lyrics, there’ll also be some tips for setting your words to music, particularly aimed at the non-musical.

Who will be teaching?

Louise Riseley is a songwriter, writer, poet and laughter group leader, whose songs celebrate the wackiness of Louise Riseleyeveryday life. Louise loves creating lyrical hooks that people go home singing … and keep on singing, long after they want to.
