What’s it all about?
Do you want to learn more about International Development and Extreme Poverty?
In this class we’ll be taking a crash course on International Development: the definitions, barriers, causes, and case for ending extreme poverty within our lifetime. We’ll explore the facts and stories from the field, learn more about the global efforts to eradicating poverty, and the part that we each can play.
What will we cover?
We’ll learn why an end to extreme poverty is possible, and the simple, everyday actions that can help bring this about, by answering five questions:
- What is extreme poverty?
- Can we do anything about it?
- What are the barriers to ending extreme poverty?
- Why should we care?
- What can we do?
Some key ideas we’ll explore are the Millennium Development Goals, Fairtrade, International Debt Forgiveness, and Corruption. This session will be as much about sharing knowledge as getting on board with initiatives or starting your own and joining the global movement to see the end of extreme poverty.
Who will be teaching?
Your teacher will be Albert Benjamin, he’s been working both here and abroad for the Global Poverty Project. Alongside running the operations in Australia he gives presentations to employee groups, classrooms of students, and community groups. His background in information systems and his personal connection to the issue have combined to put him on his current path.
