What’s it all about?
Australian animals are known for their unusual nature and eccentricity, but few people know that this extends to reproduction. Recent research has revealed just how extraordinary the sex lives of many Australian species are. Come along and you’ll never look at an echidna the same way.
What will we cover?
So many Australian animals are exhibiting extraordinary sexual behaviour that there will not be time to cover them all. We will get to select from a wide range of species including kangaroos, cuttlefish, dolphins, redback spiders, eclectus parrots, fruitbats, finches, skinks, dungbeetles, antechinuses and greater bowerbirds.
Who will be teaching?
Stephen Luntz writes for I Fucking Love Science and was a staff writer at Australasian Science magazine and has been published on ABC online, Crikey and Australia Unlimited. He is the author of Forensics, Fossils and Fruitbats: A Field Guide to Australian Scientists (CSIRO Publishing 2011). Although his background is in physics he now writes about all fields of current Australian research, and this has led him to learn more than he ever thought possible about how Australian species reproduce. He’s found these stories are more popular at parties than the latest developments in the use of Bose-Einstein Condensate, although he can tell you about that if you like aswell.
