You will need to bring along your own uke to this session. You can often find some for around $30 at places like Guitar Gallery, Billy Hyde or Lord Uke, which means you get to choose your own colour! Unfortunately you cannot participate in this class without one.
The humble uke gets an Australian makeover!
Ukulele is enjoying a popular renaissance courtesy of inexpensive starter ukes, a multitude of YouTube covers, blogs and ‘how to’ clips, and the technology of get-playing-quickly electronic tuners. It’s THE instrument to play wherever friends gather: travelling in a car, on the beach or in a park. Time for you to add to the soundtrack of your own life.
Based around a few classic Australian rock tunes, this class will teach you the basic chords and knowledge that will give you access to thousands of songs and hours of happiness.
Harry Harrison runs the Yarra YUkers uke group (details at www.greatbigukes.com). He has played with the fabulous Melbourne Ukulele Kollective, helps out at the Melbourne Ukulele Festival, is a member of AUTLA (Australia’s peak uke body) and teaches workshops and at festivals around Victoria. He’s a passionate advocate of this humble little instrument as a fun, mobile and (usually) inexpensive box o’ joy that appeals to musical beginners but ascends up to international performance level.
