What’s it all about?

Myths are powerful symbolic stories that bind our world together. Just as King Arthur, Athena and Luke Skywalker are the protagonists of their mythological world, you too are the main character in your own personal Hero’s Journey.

This class will give you first hand experience of how mythic themes and ideas play out in your life today, and how you can slay the dragon who guards the gold within your unconscious.

What will we cover?

We will cover:

  • What a myth is.
  • An explanation and breakdown of “The Hero’s Journey” as laid out in Joseph Campbell’s major book, Hero With A Thousand Faces.
  • The relationship of myth and the unconscious mind and how these play out in your life.
  • The presence of myth in your favourite movies, books and TV shows.

Who will be teaching?

Josh Samuels is originally from Marin County, California, but has lived in the Southen Hemisphere for 8 years now. He is a writer of TV, web series, theatre and a Twitter feed (but this mainly consists of puns). He has been studying mythology, and specifically the works of Joseph Campbell, for over 12 years, and was amazed at how these seemingly old stories spoke to him in a modern context.

You can check out his website or imdb.com page to prove that he is a real person. Some people say that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet, but Josh thinks that’s just a myth (pun intended).
