What’s it all about?

If you wanted to create life from scratch, would you know where to begin?

The chemistry of life class is for anyone who has ever wished they paid more attention during science lessons. We will cover the foundations of the chemistry and biology of living creatures so that by the end you will have a solid understanding of the building blocks of life, which you can use to impress friends, pass on to young ones or begin your own Frankenstein.

Come along to discover what you are really made of, and what life is all about.

What will we cover?

The class will focus on the basic composition of living creatures:

– The elements of life
– Key interactions
– Cell composition
– Molecules that you can’t live without (such as DNA and amino acids)

We will then discuss how these compounds are actually made and manipulated in life forms in order to serve their function.

Who will be teaching?

Mark Gregory

Mark Gregory is currently studying for a PhD in the field of chemistry at the University of Melbourne. When he is not mixing chemicals in the lab he is running Laneway Learning, playing rugby and organising weekends away to somewhere he has never been before.
