What’s it all about?

Do you see sign language interpreters on the news and want to know what it’s all about? Learn about facial expressions, lip reading, why sign language isn’t just pointing at things and gesticulating, and find out why you don’t want to mess up state-specific signs.

What will we cover?

  • Fingerspelling (the alphabet) and numbers
  • Greetings and introductions
  • Basic questions and answers

By the end of the class, you will be able to fingerspell your name and introduce yourself.

Who will be teaching?

10525801_10153200454840561_2080532577926537257_nHelen Mahar works in community services and mental health. In response to the lack of affordable sign language education available for young people, Helen created a group for people aged 15-30 to practice sign language in a casual setting, aptly titled Auslan For Young People In Melbourne.
