What’s it all about?

Aspiring screenwriter, or just simply curious about what goes on behind a film? This class will be an interactive crash-course, for novice and intermediate alike; from coming up with an idea, to putting it on paper.

What will we cover?

We’ll be looking at a host of screenwriting basics, from characters to their interactions with each other onscreen. As we go along, we’ll see how they influence a screenplay’s narrative, and how they in turn affect your audience. In a series of intermissions, we’ll then break away, build a sample scene from start to finish, and get that writing muscle working. Discussions and participation are highly encouraged!

Who will be teaching?

AlexAlexander D’Aloia is a multi-disciplined writer, with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing majoring in screenwriting. In 2012, he was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize. Prior to that, for two-and-a-half years he co-hosted the (now defunct) indie-music-reviewing blog Highly Evolved under the guise enantiomorphicgod. Currently, he resides at the Wheeler Centre with Australian Poetry, as their editorial essistant for the online publication Sotto Magazine. You can find him here.
