What’s it all about?

Learn the traditional Native American technique of peyote stitch bead weaving. You’ll leave the class having mastered a new craft — plus have the beginnings of a bracelet or lariat-style necklace.

What will we cover?

Peyote stitch is an ancient technique of off-loom bead weaving used around the world. It’s named after its usage by Native American tribes, and is also commonly known as ‘gourd stitch’. We’ll learn how to do peyote stitch using just a needle, thread, and seed beads.

We’ll cover the myriad peyote stitch techniques before diving into beading and making our own creations. Plus you’ll even have the chance to create your own design!

Everyone will leave with the makings of a piece of wearable art.

Who will be teaching?

Theresa Winters fell in love with the art of bead weaving in a Fibre Design class at a college in Wisconsin in the late 90s. She loves teaching at Laneway Learning, offering cross-stitch, How to Make Friends in a New City, and her ever-popular hair braiding class (find out more at www.braidiance.com).
