What’s it all about?

GMOs, or Genetically Modified Organisms, have frequented news headlines over the last few years. But you still may be asking yourself: “What exactly are GMOs? What is all the controversy around them? Do they possess any health benefits?” We often get the impression that GMOs and pesticides are evil, while natural and organic is good. But is it really a black and white debate? With an ever increasing world population and current climate changes, we should be taking an informed approach to the options.

What will we cover?

In this class, you will learn the science behind GMO production:

  • How GMOs are produced in the laboratory.
  • Different types of GMOs currently under development.
  • Past and current animal studies evaluating the safety of GMOs and pesticides.
  • The basics and rationale behind organically vs non organically grown foods.

In addition, you will get the chance to get a taste of this debate at the end of the class!
