What’s it all about?

Weaving is a traditional skill from ancient times: put it to use to create a colourful modern basket that fits into the palm of your hand!

What will we cover?

We will learn ‘blanket stitch’, an adapted central desert basketry weaving technique to construct exquisite coiled baskets. We will also discover a bit about indigenous communities where hand-crafted goods like these are made.

Who will be teaching?

Adrienne Kneebone travelled to the NT as an ambitious, enthusiastic, energetic 19 year old. She was always drawn to nature so fell quickly in love with the life style and what it had to offer. The rich colour and skill in the Indigenous basketry was so incredible: she was in love! She spent many years mastering pandanus basket weaving on my own at a remote community. She created a Community Capacity Building Project that enhanced welfare of a group of Western Arnhemland women though the encouragement and development of a body of contemporary fibre art. The Pandanus Project took these women from Jogjarkarta Indonesia to Fed Square.
