What’s it all about?

This is a class for people who love reading, and who like the idea of talking about reading.

Perhaps you love the idea of a book club, but don’t know where to begin? Or maybe you have been looking for a while, but can’t find ‘the right one’? Already a book club member and want some tips? We’re here to help! Or perhaps you want to set up your own book club? Easy, this workshop has got it all.

What will we cover?

The workshop will cover the range and type of book clubs available, how to find local book clubs and decide on the right one for you. It will also cover how to set up and run your own successful book club including picking your book club ‘style’, who and how to invite, the logistics involved in setting and running meetings, the highs and lows of running your own club and how to find resources.

The workshop will finish off with a guided ‘book club-style’ discussion of a well-known short story.

Who will be teaching?

Nicola is a book nut. Since having her pocket torch taken away by her parents at the age of seven (for reading under the covers late at night!), she has tried to control her reading destiny by following a literary path through university, volunteering at literary festivals, hanging out in library cafes and working in the publishing industry since graduation. She has been a member of book clubs for over 12 years wherever she has lived (Oxford; Raleigh, NC; Melbourne), and has also run several successful book groups herself.
